So you’re coming? Fantastic! As an event, Streetopia only happens with the support of residents – and we’d like to make sure they don’t get parked in on the day.
So, please help us to keep our event area clear by using public transport (or coming by bike), so we can keep the narrow streets of Obs clear of snarl-ups. If it’s a bus you’re after, you have options:
– MyCiti has a station at Salt River, 800m from our event area
– Golden Arrow service Main Road, which is 500m from the event area
– you can also catch minibus taxis along Main Rd
Of course there are also many cab services, but if you’re coming by car please park along Liesbeek Parkway, where there are hundreds of parking bays.
Coming by bike?
Well played – if you’re concerned about a safe space for yours, good news: both sides of the Village Green have a length of fence that’s ideal for locking your bike to.
Parking in the event area?
That’s crazy talk, don’t bother – by 10am when the event starts, the immediate area around the Village Green will be chock full with trader and crew vehicles, and we have to reserve some bays for the lesser able, and event support staff such as medics and security. Please follow our suggestion above of using Liesbeek Parkway’s plentiful parking bays. It’s a short 3-minute walk to the event area if you use the Obs Station subway.
Info line for Obs residents
In order to ensure residents’ homes in the vicinity of the event area are free of traffic problems, signage and traffic marshalls will be stationed in the relevant areas. If you’re an Obs resident and wish to contact the event team during the event period, please call 073 069 5056 and the matter will be attended to.
