As a community-based event, the whole of our day together on the streets is powered by the spirit of volunteering. The artworks, performances and many other activities are all offered as a gift to the community of Obs – as are the time of many folks who fill shifts in operational roles on the day. And among these are the eyes and ears of the community – our Rangers.
Rangers are from the community, for the community – and their role is to act as community mediators, and also to ensure that people are safe from harm, and well-informed. At AfrikaBurn, this role is performed by many dozens of volunteers who have trained up as Rangers – but ahead of each Streetopia, training sessions are also held in the Obs area, to provide an opportunity for residents to learn some new skills and give back to the community.
Coming up this Saturday the 17th of November, a training session will be held at the AfrikaBurn offices in Salt River. The training is free, and anyone is welcome.
Where: Junction Hotel, 8 Junction Road, Salt River
When: 9am – 3pm
